AI enlargement versus standard resizing
AI Ultra uses Real-ESRGAN x4plus, our heaviest model, to estimate edges and clean up noise and compression artifacts. AI Detail uses ESRGAN Thick; AI Fast uses ESRGAN Slim for quicker, smoother results. Standard resamples existing pixels. Ultra works natively at 4× and resizes that result for 2×. Inspect at 100%: AI can invent texture or distort faces and text, and the heaviest model is not best for every image.
More pixels are not proof of more information
2× doubles each edge and creates four times as many pixels; 4× creates sixteen times as many. AI cannot recover the true missing detail, repair every blurry image or make unreadable text reliable. Use the original when accuracy matters. Larger exports often take more disk space.
Stronger detail, with a larger download
AI Ultra downloads about 67 MB; AI Detail about 29 MB for your chosen scale; AI Fast under 1 MB. All also need the local processing engine. These assets are served by this site only when you start. Ultra is best suited to a desktop and can take several minutes. You can cancel or choose a lighter method. Standard needs no AI model. Your images are never uploaded.
Transparency, formats and practical limits
PNG and WebP can retain transparency; alpha is resized separately. JPG fills transparent areas with your chosen color. Exporting drops source metadata. All upscale and enhancement outputs must fit 3840 × 2160, or portrait. Inputs retain the 40 MiB file limit. Above-4K originals need resizing first. These safeguards do not guarantee every phone has enough memory.
